He Took His Time
Written by Ana Saunders
Psalm 139:14 (NIV)
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
Many of us have read this verse plenty of times. We've heard it in conferences and referred to it in sermons, but how many of us have internalized what David is saying in this passage?
I believe too often, we neglect certain areas in our lives because we do not fully understand its value and purpose. We get upset when we fall, or we're compelled to judge others when holiness seems to be far away from their present condition. Yet, what is most painful is not the lack of respect for the Word, but the lack of knowledge we have about the Word. They may not see who they are in Christ, and that is painful. But let me rephrase that - WE may not see who WE are in Christ, and that is even more unfortunate.
Today, I'd like to bring attention to just how valuable we are to God. David declares, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made." PAUSE. Fear is usually used with a negative connotation. For example, I have a fear of insects (Lord knows I do). So much so, that just typing out the word made me cringe. However, fear, in this context, refers to reverence. We're taught to reverence God, reverence the House of the Lord, but let's take a closer look at this type of reverence. Romans 12:1 tells us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. In 1 Corinthians 6:19, Paul refers to our bodies as the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in us. We know this. But yet, in Psalm 139:14, we see that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. God made us with fear? What?! Yes, with REVERENCE. It is to say, He took His time. This was an holy act. When He created YOU, He did it intentionally. David goes on to remind us, YOUR works are wonderful. We are wonderful, because God's works are wonderful. When we don't value HIS works, it's an insult to God.
When we internalize just what we mean to God, we'd take better care of His temple; His creation; His wonder. A wonderful being does not settle for mediocre things. A wonderful thing does not submit to disorderly conduct. A wonderful person does not subscribe to just any kind of lifestyle. Wonderful embodies, just that - wonder.
Today, make sure that you pay attention to the things you do and say. When people hear and see you, do they see wonder, or do they wonder about who you REALLY serve?
Let our minds be in Christ and let your lifestyle speak of that which is beautiful, holy and a reflection of Christ.
He took His time to make you - WONDERFUL!
